Agreement
By downloading, installing, or using StillView, or by using stillviewapp.com, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app or the site.
"I," "me," and "my" mean Vinny Carpenter, the independent developer who builds and publishes StillView. "You" means anyone who uses the app or visits this site.
License
StillView is free of charge. Two licenses apply, depending on how you got it:
- Mac App Store build. Apple licenses the App Store version to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Apple's App Store terms also apply to the download.
- Source code. The source is available on GitHub under the MIT License. You may read, build, modify, and redistribute it under that license, including keeping the copyright notice.
The StillView name and app icon identify my work. The MIT License covers the code. It does not include the right to publish a modified build under the StillView name or to suggest that I endorse it.
Your files
StillView works on files and folders you choose. Actions such as Move to Trash change your files only when you trigger them. You are responsible for your files and for keeping backups.
To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for lost, changed, or deleted files, however that happened.
AI Insights
AI Insights uses Apple's Vision framework on your Mac to identify visual categories, recognize text, and count faces. When an image contains suitable text, Apple's on-device Foundation Models framework can pick out the most useful lines. The app shows those lines without rewriting them, and the language model never receives image pixels. Visual matches can be incomplete or wrong, they can miss what matters in an image, and they do not identify people. Treat the results as a starting point, not a factual record, and do not rely on them for decisions that require accuracy.
Availability depends on Apple's frameworks, your Mac, and your macOS settings, and it can change with macOS updates.
Acceptable use
Use StillView and this site lawfully, and do not use them to infringe anyone's rights. Do not attempt to interfere with this website or its hosting, and do not misrepresent your relationship with me or with StillView.
Third-party services
StillView and this site link to services I do not control: Apple, for the Mac App Store and Apple Intelligence; GitHub, for the source code and issues; and Google Fonts, for this website's typeface. Their terms and privacy policies govern your use of them, and I am not responsible for their content or availability.
No warranty
StillView and stillviewapp.com are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. That includes the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. I do not promise that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that it will display every file correctly. I also do not promise compatibility with your hardware or macOS version.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, StillView or this website. The same applies to any loss of data, files, or profits.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they apply only as far as the law permits.
Changes and availability
I may update, change, or discontinue StillView or this website at any time, with or without notice. I may also revise these terms. When I do, I will post the new version here and update the effective date at the top. Continuing to use StillView after a change means you accept the revised terms.
You can end this agreement at any time by deleting StillView and no longer using the site.
Governing law
These terms follow the laws of the state of Wisconsin, U.S., without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
